Wilson Rackets

Hey previously I talked a little about the NEW Wilson Tour BLX Tennis Racquet
, and wrote some review about it myself. The bottom line was: its a very nice blend of control per its head size and strings pattern, while offering relatively light weight for better swings and 1pt head heavy for some additional power on your strokes and serves. But lets see what other feedback we got from numerous players abput this piece:

• Denis Valenzuela : I haven’t tried a new racket for a while, as I still you the Babolat GT drive. At the beginning of my test I felt a little bothered,  probably as you mentioned in your review, this 95 head size seems not be a lot smaller than my Babolat’s 100 head size, but it makes a real difference in your tennis play and how you need to be a bit more aware for not missing the sweet spot (its smaller on a95 head size like the blx tour) . After playing some days with it, things comes to senses and you start to get your strokes better accuracy. The funny thing was that I lost control over my backhand! I demoed this BLX just because Henin uses it and she has one of the best single hand back hand strokes in the universe! My backhands met the net in 60% of the time.I can blame it on the Wilson BLX Tour’s head size and the poli syntetic strings it comes in its demo version (guys, if its a demo version, put some decent power strings and lets as enjoy it!), I’m pretty sure that with my power bans strings it would have felt better…I have to say, that after having so much trouble with the backhand stroke, I had a joy, real joy with its amazing spin potential!!!( which could be much better with other strings). Bottom line: it will be a very good racket for a two hand backhand player, where power  isn’t an issue, but for me, it was a little trouble.

• Damon Dunn: Ammmm I use a Babloat pure strom GT, my current rackets feels a little bit less control than I would expected, I can’t exactly explain it, but I felt that I’m losing or giving up power with the GT in order to get better control (As I tried to hammer some strokes, the ball went crazy with me…), it seemed as if I could never hit controlled deep shots .So I decided to test my friends rackets , head youtek p mp and the Wilson k blade 98 (was for sold a great price). The Head racket was good but I felt it heavy after just a couple of games (had to work it hard with its almost 12 oz.). The Wilson K blade 98 felt much better and about 80 bucks less. But if I’m here, I probably want to talk about the Tour blx! It gave me the best control out of the three and by far better than my Babolat. Iknow people will say how come and so on, but this candy gave me my best ever cross court strokes, really! The second best thing about it was in rallies when I just had to put the ball back deep, it was so easy!!! really surprised me! I found consistensy, very important issue for me, as I gain confidence with it. As for serving I’m not a spin guy, but when I tried to spin the serve it felt better than with the other rackets. I didn’t feel much improvement on my flat serves. Verdict: I would recommend any one who plays a 98 head to test this piece! a very power racket while feels good in your hand!
• Tal Gaviel : Must say that I’m currently using a very good racket, the Wilson k 6.1 and fairly pleased with it, but when I come to rank this racket, those are the differences I can advise you of: as for power on my baseline strokes I can’t see to much difference, but because of the more dense strings pattern (the wilson k 6.1 team is 16*18) I can say that there is much more spin and what we call pop on the shots. I can say that they feel the same for control even though the k 6.1 team is a smaller head size (95) but more open string pattern. That’s what made me decide that I love more a dense string pattern – I can’t say that I’m a Nadal spin type of player, on the other way, I’m a very “bad” spin player, that’s why I was surprised to see spin on my forehand, while playing with open string pattern like the k6.1 16*18 I got no spin at all!!! The spin occurs not only in the ground strokes, but also in the serve and that was a real surprise for me. After technically doing the top spin serve right, it brings a new weapon to your arsenal!!! After that demo I must say I like that racket a lot, the only thing that I can say bad about it is that I feel that my serve returns are a bit slower than before with my Wilson k6.1 team, but overall the Wilson tour Blx is a great improvement to my tennis style and versatility!!! ENJOY IT!!!
• Jan Konner : Hey you all, I must say first off all that I’m a fun Petra Kvitova the last wimbledon tournament (but this is just a coincidence ) and aperantlly also Devenport and Jelana Dokic before and they are using this racket now too. So there is something about it… A little about me – I’m 35 yrs old, I spend most of the day at work and with my family, U play tennis about 3-4 times a week. I used over size rackets most of my tennis “career” (Hammer 6), but lately I decided I want to get a new racket (just wanted to spoil myself). I tried about 6-8 rackets including the Wilson k 98 the DUNLOP Aerogel 4D 300 Tour and the HEAD Youtek IG Instinct S. I found the BLX Tour my favorite choice, why? I felt that it generates the best spin of this group. I found out that I love to get top spin short strokes and that is the best racket for that purpose in my opinion. I also strung it with LUXILON Big Banger Alu Power 127 Spin for greater effect. I get better accurate serves (no surprise as it isn’t a 117 head size). Two things to keep in mind: 1.If you upgrade it from an over sized racket, keep in mind that your new racket (in general – any racket) will have less power per its smaller head size. 2. It seems to me that the grip they supply with the racket is a bit thicker. But in general its a great racket to upgrade to!!!I love it!!!

This time I want to tell you about the Wilson Tour BLX (not the Wilson Pro tour blx used by many men players ). For starters, this racket is the new and updated model to the Wilson k tour 95 (Or the nCode 95 before it Justin Henin’s racket – Henin is one of my favorite players – sometimes quality comes in small packages!).

The Wilson Tour BLX of course uses the newest Wilson technology BLX = Basalt fiber, tis one wilson claims will get you more feel and control with your swings and strokes.

I had a week to gig with that sweet thing and I’ll tell I really like it, even thought it was my first ever 95 square inch racket tested.Why I liked it? Justin likes it so I do too ,kidding `-). If you only look at this stick’s specs you’ll find a very nice and balanced racket:

you’ll get a lot of control out of the

1. BLX great frame.
2. Head size 95 sq. in. -not a pain in the ass like the six one 90 and not a big one like the 104″ Wilson Team BLX.
3. A nice tight 16×20 string pattern for some extra control.

You’ll also get some more power, as this candy has

1. Head heavy build 1 point, for more power on your strokes.
2. Light weight, only 10.80 oz. (305 grams) for fast swings.
3. Its a little longer than the usual 27.25in for a bit more leverage on your strokes- this is one of my favorite things about this Wilson Tour BLX, ots funny to thing, but the 1/4 inch makes me bend my legs less, which makes my strokes better and my rallies a little longer, as I have more stamina left in my guts.

This combination will get as a very good feel and control with some power.

So how I managed it? At the beginning it was a little funny, Why? if you never yet played a 95 head size racket (I currently use the Dunlop 300 tour 98 18*20), those 3 inches makes a big difference! For the first 2-3 games I kicked some balls to the skies like a first timmer… It was embarrassing as my wife and my 3 years kid watched it happens `-( but after some more games it felt much much better! I can say that I definitely and bigger accuracy rates and as I built my confidence with it, I got more power with my strokes. It felt a little stiff in my net game, but I’m not a net fun, I like it better banging from the baseline. I don’t know if it was because of its strings, but I thought it will be a bit more power hitter, maybe I had to test it a little more to see other results. I’ll never get it, why a 170$ racket, comes with so bad strings… An easy to maneuver racket with a relatively low strung weight. As for serves, this string pattern in combination to the 95 head size generates an adequate amount of spin, this part I really like as my first and second serves are spin based serves!

New review (07/08/2011) : Lila Bon – The Wilson Tour BLX is a very good racket if you are a player that loves to move all over the court and not just staying in the baseline defensive mode. As you mentioned in your K6.2 racket and that probably goes with every under 200$ rackets, it comes with a low quality strings and if you are used to one kind of strings, it will be very strange for you to play with those . When it comes to back line ground strokes I really like it, it lets me get the ball back deep and that’s a very good reason to get the Tour BLX alone! I feel that I can get more topspin in my shots, but is to blame my string choose: I play with the Dunlop DNA 17 for more power and durability (I like it) but less spin (I’d probably get a more even string for the next time…). As for the serves I like it but would need more power and think it could by better. Course courts strokes are good and deep and that is my favorite shot, so it’s a winner racket for me! Another good thing about it is been relatively lightweight, so I feel that I’m ready to hit the ball back any time!

A very good racket , the Wilson Tour Blx  will be a great tool to continue your progress. Thanks Moshe for letting me write this quick one, I do want to write about the k6.1 (the racket I used before my shoulder surgery), but this will be one the next time. `-)
